    Many book groups spend lots of time talking about Deborah’s sister, Elsie. How did your group discuss this part of the Lacks family story?

    1. I’m only 10 years old and I already read The immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and it was sort of sad to read when both Lacks sisters, Elsie and Deborah died. Deborah was sweet. Are the Lacks brothers still alive now?

      Someone in our group posited the theory that Elsie was profoundly deaf (since everyone else had some hearing loss) and that was the problem? We all agreed that the way she was treated was tragic.

      I have not read such an engrossing medical/science book since “The Hot Zone” and “And the Band Played On”. Patient’s rights were a long time coming.
